n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.

At The Car Wash

I finished my line edits for Canary!

That's good news for me, because now I can rest my brain a little bit (well, as much as one can do when another story is fighting its way out!).

And it's good news for you, because that means Canary one step closer to being published!

I have to admit that I was working up to my deadline on my line edits.  It was so close that I was doing them while my husband drove his car through the car wash!  Talk about multi-tasking!

CANARY Stamp (and bookmarks!)

My birthday was a week ago, and my mom got me the coolest gift. A canary stamp with my name on it!

I've been stamping it on pretty much everything but envelopes, so I think I need to test it out the old fashioned way.

That's where you come in. I just bought a book of stamps and would love to send some bookmarks out.

Sound good? I've got twenty stamps, so the first twenty people fill out this form will get a treat in the mail.

*Open toUnited States readers only....sorry!

*If you feel more comfortable e-mailing me first to see if all the bookmarks have been requested before giving me your address, I totally understand.  Just shoot me over an e-mail at

Line Edits

Right now I'm smack dab in the middle of line edits.

For those of you who don't know what line edits are, it's when an editor goes line by line and word by word and suggests changes.  This can involve words that are used often, bad phrasing, restating things, grammar, and so on.

I'm slowly working through my document either accepting or declining my editor's changes.  It's nice to revisit Canary, because it's been so long since I've read it (over a year and a half!).  However, I have a deadline, so I've been burning the midnight oil.

This picture describes me perfectly right now...

And if you want to die of cuteness, check out the Tumblr where this pic is from!
