Self-Editing Is The Worst Of All Evils

This is the face of someone trying to focus and churn out a first draft of her new book...

Sadly, this is also the face of someone who is moving very slowly with this first draft because she can't stop going back and editing herself.

AUGH!

Creeper

Realization of the day...

I stalk my book's Goodreads' page like I used to stalk my e-mail when I was querying and out on submission.

Nothing changes when you sell a book.

I'm still a creeper!

(But not as creepy as when  Edward watches Bella sleep!)

Florida Trip Photo Dump

The forecast is calling for snow (snow!) these next few days, so I thought it was only fitting to post pictures of my trip to Florida where it was in the 80s all week.  I'm ready to go back!

Kind of Cool Author Stuff

My book has an ISBN number!  Hot diggity dog!  It's so dorky, but so cool at the same time.

ISBN# 9781605425870

How do you like them numbers?

My book is also listed on my publisher's site.

I also have my author page.

Don't you love that I used the mustache pic?  I figured I might as well strive to be as professional as possible!

If You Have a Minute...

If you have a minute...

Please hop over to the wonderful (and fellow Ohio writer!) Mindy McGinnis' blog. She interviewed me today about being a writer/blogger. Hot diggity dog!

Mindy is a fellow member of The Lucky 13s (2013 debut authors) and her book NOT A DROP TO DRINK sounds amazing!

NOT A DROP TO DRINK, the story of a teenage girl surviving in a rural America where an ounce of fresh water is worth more than gold and death wanders the countryside as thirst, cholera, and the guns of strangers; when her mother dies in an accident, the girl must decide between defending her pond alone or banding together with a crippled neighbor, a pregnant woman, a filthy orphan, and a teenage boy who awakens feelings she doesn’t understand.

Crits for Water

Crits for Water is an AMAZING fundraiser offering author's crits in return for a donation to help fund two clean water projects in developing nations. This year's goal is to raise $10,000. You can find all the information here.

I'm donating a 7,000 word manuscript critique on June 27th. I'll be sure to spread the word as the time comes closer, but I want to write about this great project now. Because almost 100 authors, agents and other cool book industry people are offering up their services right now!

Please check it out, consider bidding or spreading the word!

I Have a Titanic Crush on Titanic

So back in my younger days I was kind of sort of really obsessed with the movie Titanic. Like crazy fan girl obsessed. My roommate and I saw it four times in the theater our freshmen year and had our walls plastered with posters!

My love of the movie made it a no brainer to get our picture taken in front of a backdrop of the grand staircase when Jason and I were in a cruise. And while I know my husband would kill me if he found out I was sharing this, I thought the anniversary would be a fitting day to post this gem of a picture!

Don't laugh too hard!

Lazy Florida

This picture was taken after dinner at Benihana. The one in Stuart, Florida is on the water. My family has been going to it for at least twenty years. It's a vacation tradition.

Florida is great. Very lazy days by the pool, good books read (now I'm reading Sara Zarr's HOW TO SAVE A LIFE...love), dinners with the family, and writing before I go to bed.

I'm writing like a woman possessed; I don't know if it's the ease of vacation or what, but the words are flowing out easily and keeping me up until the late hours of the night. Woo-hoo!

A Good Dose of Vitamin D

I am in Florida for the week doing a whole lot of nothing but reading, sunning, knitting and getting a whole new crop of freckles!

My first vacation read has been spectacular. If you haven't added WHAT COMES NEXT by Colleen Clayton to your Goodreads list yet, you must! It comes out in October!

Typing It Up

I've been typing up all the words I've been writing during stolen moments. If you dig down deep into my garbage, you might get a sneak peek!

Goofs in The Hunger Games

Every Monday morning, my English department meets before school to discuss any department issues. Today one of us said something about The Hunger Games and one of the teachers goes, "Is this how it's going to be? For the rest of the year we're going to talk about The Hunger Games?" The answer from the rest of us was a big, fat "yes!"

So this is how it is going to be...I'm still going to talk about The Hunger Games because I have a dorky little thing I do. I'm addicted to IMDB, and on each movie's page, they list the "goofs" or inconsitencies that are found in the movie. Of course, I had to look up The Hunger Games.

Here's IMDB's listing of goofs during the movie...

When Prim is going to her group of 12-year olds, the pin is on her left, but when she is called as tribute, it is on her right.

The countdown while the Tributes are waiting for the Hunger Games to start is actually longer than 60 seconds from the moment they begin counting down from 60 to the time they reach 0.

When the crowd at the District 12 reaping gives Katniss the three-fingered salute, they use their left hands. During the Games, when she salutes the people of District 11 and they return it, they use their right hands.

When Peeta and Katniss are investigating the sounds (that turn out to be hounds), in one shot, Katniss has her bow drawn. In the following shot, she proceeds to draw her already drawn bow.

During the chariot scene, the crowd throws flowers to the tributes. Katniss is never seen catching a flower, but when the chariots reach the end of the parade grounds, she is holding a rose.

During the Reaping, when Katniss yells, "I VOLUNTEER!" her hair is messed up and ruffled, however, when she states "I volunteer as tribute," her hair is combed again.

When Katniss begins cutting down the Tracker Jacker nest with her knife, she uses the blade side. In the next cut, the knife has flipped around and she's sawing with the serrated edge.

When Katniss is turning around to show her fire dress, you can see her hair (bun) comes apart. But in the next scene her hair is nicely tucked in.

Whene Katness is walking up for the reaping she has a bruise on her neck in next shot it's gone.

They only show seven tributes in the beginning after the first bloodbath at the Cornucopia.

Continuity during the finale... Cato has Peeta in a choke-hold, and blood on his hands. Going back and forth from the duo to Katniss, the blood comes and goes.

Continuity... No cannon fire for Rue or Marvel although Katniss had evidently regained her hearing by this time since she listened to Rue's final words.

Kind of fun to look at, right?

I noticed the canons because they only went off for a few tributes, but that was it for me. Did you catch any of these?
