Honeymoon Reading List

We booked our honeymoon!

We'll be spending eight days on the island of Cyprus in the Mediterrean and then four days in Paris (home of two of my favorite reads this year....Revolution and Anna and the French Kiss!).

Cyrpus will be our beach vacation...we're staying at a house with a pool within walking distance to beaches on the sea. Like the one below...which is Aphrodite's Rock and supposedly the birthplace of her.

The overseas flights will be long and there are lots of days that will be spent laying by the pool or on the beach. That means I've been hording new books that have come out (or are coming out) in order to have a lot of good reads on the trip. Nothing is worse than running out of good books to read (believe me, I found that out when studying abroad in Costa Rica...I was reading T-RASH just to get by!).

Here's the list so far...

Beauty Queens (Libba Bray)

Same Difference (Siobhan Vivian)

Invincible Summer (Hannah Moskowitz)

Moonglass (Jessi Kirby)

Clean (Amy Reed)

Where She Went (Gayle Foreman) *It's killing me not to read this book right now!

Imaginary Girls (Nova Ren Suma)

Break the Skin (Lee Martin)

So Shelly (Ty Roth)

What do you think? Is this enough books to make it through the trip? Yeah, it's probably too much (especially since it's my honeymoon and I'll be spending time with my new husband....waaa!), but it's better to be safe than sorry!

Any recommendations that I missed?

It's Ringing Poetry

I'm not sure whether I love this idea or it just makes me laugh because I'm a writer nerd. Regardless, Poets.org has ringtones for those of you who love poetry.

You can go to the site and download free ringtones of poems. Who wouldn't love to hear Dylan Thomas or Langston Hughes words whenever you get a call? Forget the rap music or elevator rings tones.

My choice...Gwendolyn Brooks' "We Real Cool." I teach the poem with my students and love it.
The phrasing and sound of the words together is awesome. It's such a smooth poem (Can you call a poem smooth? Because this poem is!). Have you ever read it? Give it a read...
The Pool Players.
Seven at the Golden Shovel.

We real cool. We
Left school. We

Lurk late. We
Strike straight. We

Sing sin. We
Thin gin. We

Jazz June. We
Die soon.

Check the site out and let me know what you download!

Keeping Busy

I know, I know, I've stunk with my blogging this last week. I've just been really busy.

Here's my busy life in pictures:

I have a pile of papers to grade....

Books for my MFA program to read....

Lots of writing....

Wedding planning (including finding my wedding shoes and getting the invitations!)...

A registry to start building...

Puppy preparing (we bring her home in less than five days...waaaa!)....

Whew! It is Spring Break, so hopefully I'll be able to catch up on blogging. What's been keeping you busy?
