I watched THE HELP this weekend and while I thought it was good, I also felt the book was a million times better.
The same with WATER FOR ELEPHANTS, another movie I just saw.
That's why I totally love this saying...
What about you? Are there any movies that you've seen that did the book justice?

I would say that The Lord of the Rings is the closest the films ever got to the books' level. BUT... I have to say I enjoyed the film version of The Notebook more than the book version. I thought the Gosling/McAdams chemistry did the story much better justice than how Sparks wrote their characters.
Okay, I haven't read LOTR, and I really liked The Notebook in novel form, but I would agree that both movies did the books justice.
I also thought Water for Elephants did the book *justice* but yes, the book was better.
There were a lot of *nuances* in The Help that made it powerful, and I felt like the movie missed those. (With the mother, with Hilly, etc.) So for me, the movie didn't do the book justice -- but most of my book club loved the movie.
I usually find that I enjoy movie versions a lot more if it's been a while since I read the book. (Which is why I don't plan to reread The Hunger Games before the movie. :P)
Whilst I can think of several films from books that I enjoyed, I can't think of a single one that I preferred to the book.
I'm with Sarah. Movies just don't have the space or time to explore things the way a book can.
Books for the win! :)
Yes, I agree the book was much better. (The Help) Saying that, I'll never look at pie the same way again.
